ST. HELENA Parish Jury Duty
Juror Qualifications
You must have the following qualifications to serve as a juror:
You must be a citizen of the United States and the State of Louisiana, and you must have resided within St. Helena Parish for at least one year prior to today.
You must be at least 18 years of age.
You must be able to read, write and speak the English language, and be possessed of sufficient knowledge of the English language.
You must not be interdicted, or otherwise incapable of serving because of some mental or physical infirmity.
You must not currently be under indictment for a felony, and you cannot have been incarcerated under an order of imprisonment for a felony offense, or on probation or parole for a felony offense at any time within the last 5 years.
Exemptions from Jury Service
If you have actually served on a jury within the last 2 years you may claim this exemption. If you wish to serve on the jury you need not claim this exemption
If you are over the age of 70, you may claim this exemption. If you wish to serve on the jury you need not claim this exemption.
If you feel you do not meet the above qualifications or wish to claim an exemption, you must contact the Judge’s Chambers by phone at (985) 748-9445 and press extension #6 to speak to the receptionist.
postponements
You are entitled to at least one postponement in serving on a jury if you have a valid reason as to why you are not able to serve at this particular time. You are only entitled to one postponement, and if your service is postponed, you will need to sign up with the clerk of court to schedule your jury service for a future jury trial within the next 6 months.
CELL PHONES WILL NOT BE ALLOWED IN THE COURTROOM
A juror receives $25.00 per day plus 16¢ per mile traveled from and to his or her residence as listed on the subpoena.
